Reupholstery and Restoration: specialist service - loose covers made
to order too.
Here we have a collection of antique upholstered furniture
that we treated in a traditional manner. Firstly, we stripped off all old
upholstery, so that the frames could be repaired and French polished. Then
we reupholstered the seats using jute webbing and coil springs. We completed
the seat by stuffing the hessian cover with hair, the backs being treated
in the same manner. Finally, we cover with the fabric of choice, and finish
with either individual studs, or a complimenting braid.
We once restored an antique barber’s chair, and the man said, “I am
overwhelmed, I’m stunned, that is just so awesome! I’ve never used that
word before, but it is just awesome, I really love this!”

Leather upholstered furniture - antique chair
We stripped back this antique chair to the frame, reserving
the original stuffed seat, to allow for some minor repair and renovation.
We then renewed the webbing and sewed back in the original stuffed seat,
as it was still in good condition. We covered the chair in distressed-style
Italian leather and finished it with individual studs.

1950s / 60s Laze-E-Boy recliner, mechanical operation
We decided that this chair could take a bit of designer
help – with the muted contrast colours making it a feature in the room.
We took the chair back to its frame sections, and reupholstered it, adding
extra padding to the arms and back, as well as providing a new seat cushion.
We finished the chair in hard-wearing Linwood fabrics from the Barcelona
collection.

Small button back chair
This little button back chair was stained and grubby,
but otherwise in good condition. We re-upholstered it in a linen from Linwood’s
Capella range, just adding a little more padding where required. The chair
was finished with a matching braid.

Small chair
We were asked to reupholster this delightful little chair
as a showpiece, so we first stripped it down to the bare frame for repair
and French polishing, then used reupholstered with the traditional hair
and felt. In order for the fabric to lie smoothly round the curve of the
back, these little chairs were usually buttoned (as we have done here) or
fluted – using stuffed channels of fabric to produce the curve. We finished
this in a striped velvet by Linwood fabrics.
